The name of this fashionable neighborhood originally came from a Franciscan Convent in the year 1716. It is now known for the historical Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Pilar and the cemetery where the lives and deaths of generations of Argentine elite are remembered. Here, visitors will be welcomed by many open, green plazas, as well as numerous bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and movie theaters.
The large art fair which takes place on weekend afternoons attracts many sight-seers who can enjoy several varying art presentations, as well as street performances and exhibitions presented by the cultural center. With all of the nearby entertainment facilities, the area is popular for activities day and night, throughout the week. The neighborhood is located between the downtown area and the Palermo neighborhood. Easily accessible transportation connects to downtown in about ten minutes.
